Naperville, IL, September 2016, Craft Cocktail Lounge
We set out to elevate the craft of the handmade cocktail in a comfortable, approachable setting. We started with a long, thin, third-floor space. The space was acoustically challenged, but with access to a roof deck site, it was ripe with seasonal opportunity.
Our architectural strategy was to create indoor and outdoor lounge spaces. Fire tables in the outdoor lounge extend warmth into spring and fall nights. Inside, we built a collection of rooms within the room, breaking down what would be a long linear space from party to conversation. Crisp lines of the zinc bar and ribbed millwork are softened by saddle-colored leather and an acoustically absorbing integral color plaster ceiling.
