New Buffalo, Michigan, In Progress, Residential

Burrowed among the trees and just a short walk from the beach, this retreat is designed for multiple families to gather together, without asking everyone to live at the same pace. We conceptualized the home as two connected cabins – one for gathering, one for rest. The two-story forms live humbly with low roofs and bold dormers to bring light and views into the home. The glass-lined dining room is both the physical and metaphorical connection, bringing the people who are experiencing this home together. Sassafras siding, metal roof, and views through the trees root the home in its setting, creating a place where families can gather, linger, and retreat.
