Two Brothers open for business
by Timothy Inklebarger

Restaurant architect Oak Park Illinois

We want to heartily welcome our client Two Brothers to Oak Park. It was our joy to design another project with them- their new Cafe, Restaurant and Bar here in Oak Park.  Also a shout out to another one of our clients Kinslagher Brewing Co, also mentioned in this article. They're working on a special brew with Two Brothers. It is great to see the collaboration between our clients.

Historic Home Renovation: Creating a Great Room

Historic home renovations require big ideas and detailed drawings outlining the grand plan

On this Oak Park home, our big idea was to take two rooms in the back of the house and create one kitchen/family room and great room.  A huge, 3-story chimney — abandoned on the first floor — divided the two rooms. We proposed the unexpected: Remove only the first-floor portion of the chimney and preserve the historic chimney on the floors above.

The Craftsman by Two Brothers

Brewery design in Naperville, IL

We want to congratulate our client, the Two Brothers Brewing Company, on the opening of The Craftsman in Naperville, IL. Many are discovering the Brothers are busy not only brewing great beer, but also roasting coffee and distilling artisan spirits, (and baking, and cooking, and dry aging meat). The Brothers hired us to create a destination where a customer can experience the full range of Two Brothers products - with a market cafe on the first floor, a farm-to-table modern tavern on the second, and a craft cocktail lounge on The Third Floor.

Elements Architectural Group's in-house Architecture, Interiors, and Branding services were exercised to elevate and illuminate the Two Brothers brand and meet the demands of a tight schedule. Additionally, the building was designed to support the Brothers commitment to sustainability, this project is LEED Gold pending.

We encourage you to visit the building, the architecture is a feast of its own. We used a material palette of reclaimed douglas fir, blackened steel, exposed brick, and glass to create a refined rustic, warm, comfortable, and inviting setting.

-Cheers

Green Lantern Open House

Logan Square architecture in Chicago  Green Lantern Thank You

Recently Sector 2337- Green Lantern located in the Logan Square Chicago neighborhood opened up their galleries for us to host an open house. Those in the Elements "orbit" had the opportunity to tour the indoor and outdoor galleries we designed, furnished with artwork from the current show, "Imperceptibly and Slowly Opening."

It was a fun night for our firm, as we were able to showcase and celebrate one of our flagship Boutique Commercial projects and clients. We enjoy our continued collaboration with the gallery.

Ampersand Chicago

Ampersand Chicago Wine Bar

Our Green Lantern Kunsthall (art bar) project led us to a chef looking to open the place of his dreams: a neighborhood wine bar. He came to us with a vision of creating a place that feels like home; A place that is comfortable, easy-going and filled with great conversation.

We looked to foster community by organizing the space into a series of rooms within the room: a bar, common table and lounge. Woods warm the space; a high mirror expands the view; a distressed wood floor keeps things casual; dark green leather booths give a nod to classic Chicago bars and lounges.

Owner's Guide to Understanding Project Cost

How much will my building project cost?

We often get asked, "How much will my building project cost?"  To answer that question, we've created an Owner's Guide to Understanding Project Cost.

In our post detailing architect types, we affirm that Elements delivers one of a kind, original, handmade designs. This is realized on every project, no matter the budget. That said, however, the budget will affect the final outcome of your project.

Why Sustainability: A Tree We Plant for Others

Presentation by William Scholtens
Originally Delivered October 12, 2011
Arlington Heights Public Library

William was invited to address the topic of "greening your home" in a lecture given to Arlington Heights residents. Rather than give a list of dos and don'ts, he used this as an opportunity to display how the decisions we make in a local Chicago area have worldwide impact. It is this belief that when someone understands the "why" the human mind and creative spirit are unleashed to solve the "how" and the "what" in their own homes. This lecture was positively received by 80 residents and continues to develop dialogue today. We love the Greek proverb quoted on page one the presentation:

"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."

May our children's grandchildren "sit in the shade" of the design decisions we "plant" today.
